Captain Ian Farquhar, a Dear Friend of the King, Has Passed Away at 78
Captain Ian Farquhar, a close friend of King Charles and Queen Camilla, has sadly passed away at the age of 78. Ian had a long and distinguished history, having also served as a rider for the Queen Mother.
In addition to being an accomplished hunter and horseman, Ian was a member of the Queen’s Own Hussars. His passing comes at a difficult time for the King, who is currently battling cancer. Just last week, Lord Rothschild also passed away at the age of 87.
Ian’s daughter, Rose Farquhar, shared memorable moments with Prince William during his gap year in 2000, including delightful picnics in Gloucestershire’s countryside.
For many years, Ian rented a charming farmhouse on the Gloucestershire estate of King’s Highgrove.
Stephen Parker Bowles, King Charles’s first husband, spoke to the Daily Mail, revealing that Ian had been very unwell. Andy Parker Bowles informed them early Wednesday morning that Ian had passed away peacefully at Highgrove.
“He was as spirited as a hawk in his youth and always a joy to be around,” Parker Bowles said. “Ian will be remembered as one of the great Masters of Hounds.”
